Psilocybin Preparation Masterclass | 6-Step Guide by Dr. Tracy Townsend
Prepare for a safe, transformative psilocybin experience with our 6-part masterclass.
At Meadow Medicine, we believe that thorough preparation is the foundation of a meaningful psilocybin journey. Our masterclass covers a four-dimensional approach to readiness — physical wellness, mental clarity, emotional resilience, and psycho-spiritual grounding.
The Power of Preparation
True preparation goes far beyond logistics. It encompasses four key dimensions:
- Physical Wellness: Nourishing your body with whole foods, staying hydrated, and optimizing sleep in the days leading up to your journey.
- Mental Health: Curating your media consumption, reducing screen time, and cultivating a calm mental environment.
- Emotional Work: Tracking emotional triggers, practicing sovereignty over your responses, and building emotional resilience.
- Psycho-Spiritual Practice: Connecting with nature, engaging in meditation or breathwork, and developing a relationship with stillness.
Setting Intentions
We guide participants to frame intentions as invitations rather than rigid goals. Instead of demanding specific outcomes, approach your journey with openness:
"May I fully surrender to the experience." "I bring openness and curiosity to whatever arises."
This approach allows the medicine to guide you toward what you most need, rather than what your conscious mind thinks it wants.
Dosing Framework
Our dosing scale ranges from 0–5 in depth, with carefully calibrated milligram ranges:
- Mild (5–10 mg): Gentle opening, heightened awareness
- Moderate (15–25 mg): Deeper introspection, emotional processing
- Strong (25–50 mg): Full immersive experience, ego dissolution possible
We often use an "intro + journey" approach, allowing participants to begin with a smaller dose and add more at the 45–60 minute mark based on their comfort and experience.
Journey Day Logistics
Your journey day is carefully orchestrated from start to finish. Pre-trip sessions ensure alignment on intentions, meal planning supports your body, and ceremony elements — music, lighting, comfort items — create a container for deep work. Your facilitator remains present throughout the entire 6–7 hour experience.
Understanding Effects
Psilocybin can produce a range of experiences including:
- Visual phenomena and heightened sensory perception
- Physical sensations of warmth, tingling, or heaviness
- Temporal distortion — time may feel expanded or compressed
- Emotional intensity — both challenging and deeply healing
- Cognitive shifts and new perspectives on long-held beliefs
Overcoming Challenges
Difficult moments during a journey are often where the deepest healing occurs. Our resilience toolkit includes:
- Mindfulness: Observing sensations without judgment
- Breathwork: Grounding through conscious breathing patterns
- Acceptance practices: Surrendering to the experience rather than resisting
- Mantras: Simple phrases to anchor awareness
- Movement: Gentle stretching or position changes when needed
